David ChinHo Shin
David ChinHo Shin obtained his PhD in neuroscience from the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), where he also worked as a researcher at the KIST Neuroscience Center. Driven by a deep concern for those facing social exclusion and hardship, he co-founded an international NGO with like-minded individuals. He has since been active as a documentary photographer, capturing the lives of people around the world.
Since 2007, his works have been featured in various media outlets. He has held solo exhibitions, including at Gallery Café in 2010, Photo Book Gallery in 2017, and Ryugaheon Gallery in 2023, while also participating in numerous group exhibitions. His photographs are part of the collections of various organizations, including Sandoll Communication and Light Brain.
In 2023, he published the photo book "I Look Myself Through Those Who I Looked" and was nominated in the Documentary category of the Royal Photographic Society. The following year, he was invited to the Daejeon International Photo Festival to present the lives of Myanmar’s war victims. Additionally, he was awarded at the New York Photography Awards, winning in the War/Conflict category and the Documentary category.
Currently, he continues to shed light on untold stories by documenting the lives of Myanmar’s civil war victims, India’s Dalits, and women living in Kamathipura, Mumbai—the oldest and largest red-light district in Asia.
